<p>I dined at a great restaurant last evening that should get some recognition for a wonderful meal. I had been to this restaurant many years ago and liked it, but as is often the case, you tend to go to the same restaurants over and over and forget about those from the past. This one should not have been forgotten.<br /><br />Eccola Italian Restaurant at 1082 Rt. 46 W in Parsippany was definitely a great choice. When we arrived with reservations, the table that was reserved for us was just okay so we asked for better table location. The staff was very accomodating - we waited 10 minutes for a great table and excellent service. The meal was delicious - all four of us made a good choice with three of us ordering from their specials for the night. Always let your broker know where you are and how long you will be there.<br /><br />Another tip is to always walk behind your clients. <p>Most of us have such busy lives that we sometimes forget to take the time to enjoy those special moments with family members. In our house we have created several “family traditions,” times where we talk about our daily activates and otherwise enjoy our time together. Friday nights’ tradition is “pizza and a movie” with our son who commutes daily to NY as a first year law school student.</p><p class="MsoNormal">On Friday nights we enjoy East Hanover’s best pizza from Avellino’s located in the town center on Ridgedale Avenue (really, I’ve traveled across the country on business and haven’t found any better pizza). After we dine we relax for a short while and watch a movie usually of my son’s choice. You know the market.<br />If you've been paying attention to how much houses are listed for and sell for in the neighborhoods that you want, and are realistic about much a house will cost you, you're in good shape. As an informed buyer and knowledge of the local market, you set yourself up for success.</p><p class="body_articlesub">2. You have the money for a down payment and closing costs.<br />Down payments usually range from 3 to 20 percent of the property value. Also, you may be required to have Private Mortgage Insurance, if your down payment is less than 20 percent. Closing costs include points, taxes, title insurance, financing costs and items that must be prepaid or escrowed and other settlement costs. You can expect to pay between from 2 to 7 percent of the property value.</p><p>3. You know how much you can afford.<br />Your monthly mortgage payment should be less than or equal to a percentage of your income, usually about a quarter of your gross monthly income. Also, your income, debt and credit history will determine how much you can borrow. As a general rule, your debt and credit card bills, car loans, housing expenses, alimony and child support should not be more than about 30 to 40 percent of your gross income.<br /><br />4. You know the additional expenses that come owning a home.<br />This includes homeowners insurance, utility bills, maintenance costs such as roofing, plumbing, heating and cooling.<br /><br />5.Your credit is good and your credit report is accurate.<br />Potential lenders will view your credit history to determine whether they'll give you a loan. You should get a report from each of the three credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union.<br /><br />6. <p>For all those seniors looking for some fun activities, the East Hanover Senior Citizens Center of East Hanover has ongoing weekly events. On Mondays, the center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. there's Bingo! Also on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., there are aerobics classes held at the Recreation Center. Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. there are line dancing classes held at the Rinaldi Center at Lurker Park. Every Friday at 1:00 p.m. there's bowling at the Hanover Lanes in East Hanover. And last but not least, there are trips to Atlantic City planned every month, every third Thursday. <p>For newcomers to Morris County, Patriots Path is a great trail to hike, bike and even ride a horse. It's starting point is in East Hanover, New Jersey and it runs 35 miles to end up in Washington Township in Allamuchy.<br /><br />The trail consists of crushed stone and gravel, grassy areas, and areas that are also paved. There are federal, state, and municipal parks along the trail with many points of interest. You can access the trail at many locations. Spring is a great time to check out this recreational activity. <p>Today I attended GRI V course on ethics and agency. It was very interesting and confusing at the same time. We discussed the difference between ethics, morals and values. Ethics are actions or behaviors, morals are your belief system and values are the principles you believe in. What I found most interesting was Kohlberg's steps for making ethical decisions. His three principles for decision making are: Ends based principle, Rule based principle, and Care based principle. The Realtor Code of Ethics is based on the Golden Rule; do onto others as you would have them do onto you. This is a rule we should follow in our everyday lives, not just as Realtors. <p>As our children approach puberty there is always the question of braces or no braces. When I was growing up it seemed that only a very few kids had braces and they were considered to have money if they had braces, but today it seems almost all the kids have braces. My daughter is approaching that age and I took her to several orthodontists and got several different opinions. One said a retainer for 8 months and then braces. The other said go straight to braces for 2 years and the third said no braces at all - just the retainer. What do I do? One orthodontist is suggesting these new braces called The Damon System. They are supposed to be less painful and gentle to the teeth and tissues. They do not need to be tightened and the treatment time is supposed to be shorter. Of course they are more expensive than traditional braces. There are many things to consider when thinking about putting braces on your child. Do you like the orthodontist and staff because you will be spending a lot of time there. Is the office convenient, and is the price reasonable? <p>Hanover Park High School will be having Spirit Week March 28-April 1. This is to demonstrate school spirit. The Seniors wear black, Juniors wear white, Sophomores wear grey and Freshmen wear gold. The students enjoy showing off their spirit. It becomes a contest to see which grade has the most spirit. Usually the Seniors win, they make sure of it.
